Steve and Sandra are leaving

Today is the day Steve and Sandra go back to Puerto Rico. I think they had a good time. Sandra did some diving while she was staying with us. We dove the caves and the Wreck of the Rhone.
On the Wreck of the Rhone we got down to 75 feet. It was a pretty awesome dive. There were a lot of fish. We saw some big groupers, some turtles and about 100 different kinds of fish.
We to the baths on Virgin Gorda with them and the Willy T off Norman Island.  It was a pretty good week in general.

The only problem I’m having now is with the electrical system on the starboard engine. I think I need to re wire the whole thing because what I have now seems possessed. Things will work one minute and then the guages will be spinning about the next minute. The starboard engine is the one that got the lighting strike back in Florida and has never been all the way correct since.

  1. Questions:
    When you dive the Rhone:
Can you use a mooring ball at the wreck?
Or, do you park your boat nearby and dingy over to the moorings at the wreck?
Or, do you have to get with a local dive shop?

  2. The Rhone has about 6 morning balls available for anyone to use. But they are just a little ways from the wreck. So we dingy over about 300 yard.

  3. Wes,
Since you are on the topic of engines again,...

FYI, there is an article in the latest SAIL magazine about a guy who converted from diesel to electric. He used a bank of batteries to give him 8 hours of service at low speed (he figured 4 at high speed). Since he only uses power to get in/out of the marina, this is plenty.

He sighted several benefits. My favorite: no more diesel fumes. He does his sailing in the Chesapeake but, no longer has to winterize. Therefore, he can take advantage of those warmer days in the winter and get more sailing in.
